I’m an Associate Professor at Universidad Antonio Nariño and a former Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). I’m currently working on the design and optimisation of methods for the analysis of genomic data for the prediction of host responses to infection and the discovery of comorbidity from EHR data through machine learning techniques.I received my Ph.D. degree from the University of Sheffield, UK, where I conducted research about the evolution of optimal decision-making using mathematical and computational models. These models were used to test different known hypotheses in evolutionary and theoretical biology. For instance, I published the first model showing analytically that self-deception can be evolutionarily optimal in certain situations where it is not intuitive why, providing the first theoretical support to the theory proposed by Robert Trivers.I have also worked on the design of models for predicting the evolution of phenotypic plasticity and Bayesian reasoning using concepts from probability theory, Bayesian inference and decision theory, calculus, dynamic programming, bio-inspired computation, and evolutionary game theory.
