I am currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in biology education at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. My thesis research is focusing on identifying aspects of the active learning classroom that alleviate and exacerbate emotional distress in neurodivergent undergraduate STEM students. The goal of my research is to identify the most effective teaching techniques to implement to enhance academic success and experience in neurodivergent undergraduate biology students.Additionally, I am working as a graduate biology teaching assistant. My teaching assistance is delivered in both laboratory and lecture classes. My greatest goal in my teaching assistance is to educate the students in the fundamental skills they will need to enhance their scientific careers, including scientific writing, experimental design, biological data analysis, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). I graduated in August 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Over my five years in academia, I have dedicated every moment to furthering my education in science. I have committed all of my personal time and focus into expanding my knowledge in each realm of science to my fullest potential. I seized every possible opportunity to advance myself as a scientist, taking the most challenging courses offered, completing my education through an honors college, and completing a two-semester thesis. During my senior year, I researched under a well accomplished scientist and wrote my thesis on the correlation between insulin resistance and neuropathology in Alzheimer’s disease and Type 2 Diabetes. In my thesis I proposed a pharmacological approach to ameliorating toxic protein aggregation in hippocampal insulin receptor tyrosine kinases. My endless dedication and motivation towards becoming a novel contributor in science is well demonstrated in my academic record. Not only am I highly organized in my work, but I am also immensely attentive to detail. My professional experience in nursing demonstrates my ability to multi-task, team-oriented work ethic, effectiveness in working at a fast pace, as well as my ability to learn quickly.
