I was working onshore on different power stations applying various insulation specs by using rope access. I then went offshore to cost a couple of jobs in the North Sea for the strip and relag of two large tanks. Once costings were finalised I managed a large team of scaffolders and insulators to make sure the job was completed to client’s specification, acting as a contact/focal point for BP whilst the work was being completed.

I worked with various companies within this timeframe based in the northern sector of the North Sea on numerous oil and gas platforms. I carried out all works to client specification and was quickly moved to position of charge hand on a variety of rigs. After roughly six months working offshore I made the position of project manager, overseeing a workforce of multinational tradesmen. Within this role I had to coordinate the application of insulation to spec from isometrics and plan/elevation drawings and ensure that systems where inspected ready for final inspection and sign off / hand over to client. I expanded my knowledge by working on various contracts including BG Armada Hub & FLE campaigns, Conoco-britsats [thermal & cryogenic], Total CSU Project Elgin Franklin [cryogenic -190•c], TAQA north cormorant exhaust strip and relag [550•c]. During this time I was employed by different companies, such as Cape, RBG, BIS Salamis, Aqua Terra Solutions and Muehlhan Services.

I was approached by Omega Resource Group and asked to put together a team of 6 insulators for short term work based in Plymouth on a new build nuclear power station. Although this was only a short contract, it gave me a great opportunity to expand my supervisory skills as I was in charge of tradesmen that I had personally selected for the job.

I was given the opportunity of a supervisory role on the Adriatic LNG project, based offshore of Venice, Italy. In this position I was in charge of a multinational workforce of approximately 100 men. Other duties included the generating of work permits, daily progress reports working from isometrics, planning future job releases. Also QA/QC duties were undertaken, ensuring clients specification was maintained

I had a short contract based in ICI Wilton petrochemical plant in Redcar, England. Again, here I expanded my knowledge by working to different client specifications.

I moved to this company to expand my knowledge in different aspects of my trade. I worked in numerous locations such as Cockenzie power station, Ratcliffe power station, The Dragon LNG project, South Hook LNG and the Isle of Grain power station.

It was with this company I served my three year apprenticeship as a Thermal Insulation Engineer at Cardonald College, Glasgow. I quickly became knowledgeable of marine insulation specs working on vessels based in a variety of shipyards throughout the United Kingdom and France.
