Race ONE is a charity 5K and 1 mile fun run that is put on by the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity annually in partnership with Mission Waco, a local non-profit organization that offers a variety of poverty empowerment programs for the local population. The purpose behind the race is to bring the local low-income communities of Waco and the Baylor student population together and blur the lines between the two communities. We hope that the race will foster relationships between the local community and Baylor community and create a dialogue. The race is free to the local residents of the area to encourage as many people to participate in the race as possible. The money generated from the race is then donated to Mission Waco to help with their multiple impoverished empowerment programs, such as developing career skills, medical insurances, and legal aid.As Race ONE Coordinator my responsibilities included:•Finding and talking to local businesses and companies about sponsoring or donating to the event. We would either cold call companies that might be interested in the event or followed up with companies who have previously donated to the event in past years. With each company we would offer sponsorship deals depending on the donation they gave.•Helped the other Coordinators of Race ONE with getting the event approved by the city of Waco and making sure that the roads and local neighborhoods were properly sectioned off for the day of the event.•In charge of organizing the jobs and responsibilities of the volunteers (other Alpha Tau Omega members, around 100 people) in order to ensure that the race on race day went as smoothly as possible.
