Used FEA modelling to evaluate the blast protection provided by different steels, this work was experimentally verified and has led to a change in the understanding of the desired properties in steel for blast protection. It has also led to the development of a collaboration with an international university.Other tasks: SEM charpy fracture surface analysis of steel, literature review on dynamic fracture toughness.

Set up and produced an operating manual for a new piece of equipment. Evaluated the best sample geometries that were suitable for achieving a good measurement. Allowed for staff and students to have easy access to this new equipment.

Maintain art displays around the school, keep the art rooms tidy and occasionally repair equipment.
