Improving physical activity (PA) can prevent a broad range of negative consequences for the physical and mental health of people with severe mental illness (SMI). However, many existing PA interventions are underpinned by cognitive models, focus on reflective rather than automatic processes, and rely on substantial cognitive capabilities (including goal setting and planning) that people with SMI often do not fully possess. Digital self-control training (SCT) is an evidence-based method without these drawbacks and specifically designed SCT with and for people with SMI could therefore support this vulnerable population in increasing PA. As the postdoctoral researcher in this project I work on coordination and study design, with a focus on the design research and experiments.
