About Kevin Milne

Good values, hard work, effort, and patience.Things my father taught me before he passed. My mother just wants me to be happy.I live in the bonny city of Perth, Scotland.I left my family, friends, my golf buddies, my memories, my hometown.I moved to stay with my girlfriend.I love sales and customer experiences.Something I learned from my B2C retail days all the way back to my Slater Menswear days.People came to see me, be advised, build rapport and trust me to make them look good. Then they would tell their friends and they would ask for me as they entered the shop floor. This I found was my lean into sales and how to develop trust and build relationships with people. Now in the B2B world sales has a process and the shift in dynamics with customers and prospects is a little different from what we once knew.We have to open to change and the path we take towards building trust online and offline.B2B can be done by being honest, open and sharing your self, your knowledge and helping otherswith challenges and the answers, they are looking for.So I write content. I give my audience insights into my area of work and I give them answers tosome of the concerns that businesses have about moving from Analogue to Digital. The journey and the customer experience must be front and centre. The interaction between sales and marketing must align and flow through the buying journeyfrom project discovery to execution and customer service over the long term.People want to hear from people. Human to human. Not a brand to human. This is a platform for engagement. This is what we are supposed to do. Engage with others.Write content, build an audience and network, build trust and influence, have conversations.I LOVE TECHNOLOGY AND CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE.Change is good and the digital transformation of businesses is what we are good at.My new role has opened the door to a portfolio of services and products that we take to market, backed by our trusted partners in areas across the tech stack and digital transformation. This excites me and gives the customer the opportunity to explore the possibilities they can have to reduce costs, explore new and current state offerings and simplify communications and workflow across the business.Customers Experience and Satisfaction are the end game. Always. Then they can tell their friends who delivered seamless project delivery and perhaps refer on.I also draw, climb hills, golf, and drink a gin or two. Mince n Tatties, ginger cake, and a good boxed set to.Let's connect. I want to know about you.Kev

Business Development Manager - Acquisition Of Panalpina

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

After the acquisition things became clear that DSV had a different approach to the market. They had different solutions to go to market. New opportunities, new service offerings. The spirit of Panalpina was still there, but DSV had a more strategic approach.Honestly, it was a lot harder to feel part of a new setup and come March 2020 COVID happened.I had also met a girl from Perth and my relationship was blossoming but from a distance.I was put on furlough mid-March and then I was up for redundancy.I was stunned. I worked hard. I was told it wasn't about performance but a restructure. My role no longer existed in Aberdeen. The career I wanted had been taken from me.I was made redundant at the end of June. This left the door open to explore a new offering. A chance to be closer to my girlfriend and a fresh start.I moved to Perth in June 2020.New beginnings. New opportunities.

Nov 2019 - Jul 2020

Business Development Manager - Energy & Project Solutions

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Three interviews and a psychometric test later. Two new Business Development Managers. The first sales hire outside of the industry. A career. A new beginning.Then....My father who had been battling with cancer for the last 6 years died two weeks into my new role. You can never fully prepare for this, though I knew what was coming. He was an offshore tiger. They called him Mr Angry on the asset.Respected, hard-working, honest, integrity. He loved the sea and this is where here rests.I think a lot of what he said to me as he made his way upstairs. It still hurts. I want to make him proud. I take his values with me.Panalpina listened. They supported me. And I will never forget that.Back to it, I aimed to digest this market and grab the knowledge I could from all available sources.Listen, learn, digest, ask a question, be curious. Logistics and freight forwarding is a minefield. But I loved it. I loved the challenge. I enjoyed hearing about this diverse industry and how Panalpina could provide solutions to such challenges and become a trusted partner for them.A sales hunter by trade. I look for new logos. This sales role was different from others. I had control of budget, commercials and proposals before. But in logistics, it is operations that control the numbers with agents and carriers. But this would work well by fact-finding upfront. Exploring all possible information from the prospects and clients to take this information to your operations and work smart to WIN.Information is key in this game. Trust and delivery and solid communications. Price is long forgotten if it goes wrong, you have to get it right. The cost at the other end is not worth the risk.I rolled out Sales Navigator to the wider sales team. Creating opportunity.I delivered sales results. Project wins, revenue and new opportunities.Brought on key large accounts and developed new opportunities in markets unfamiliar to the company. In November 2019. DSV acquired Panalpina.

Jul 2017 - Nov 2019

Business Development & Brand Manager

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

After a bit of time out. I did work for a company that offered (what I thought) a great opportunity.I don't have it on my profile as they no longer exist and it was not what I thought. I can digest if required. So, I was approached by Sets. I knew the MD from my previous role at CSL.He knew what I did. I knew what they did. Job done. They needed sales and marketing clout.I looked at the offering and their WHY and was excited about disrupting the norm in the Subsea market.I used my brand awareness and sales activities and provided the WHY methodology to prospect. We wanted to break down the mould of DSV/ROV operations in and around the splash zone on the asset.Essentially to try and bring new tooling to the market that would gather data (corrosion) and clean the caissons around the asset that needed cleaning and checked. Using rope access from above the zone.Traditionally budgets were spent on using DSV (costly) and ROV (costly) and we had new ways of working. This was exciting and I managed to get the team in front of almost every operator in town. The hard part was the risk for any operator utilizing budget and new methods for the unknown. But we pitched and they could see the benefit of the tooling and the savings on current OPEX.We also went to the OGTC to develop our ideas and have trials put on for operators looking at maintenance campaigns. We won a larger feasibility contract with an operator in town. But more work and buy-in were needed.Risk and change are always a challenge in the North Sea and without clear ROI and proof of concept, this space can be challenging, but the product, the service and OPEX reduction was conclusive.Midway through April, I was approached by a recruiter to look at another company.A company in logistics. Looking to add to their team. Intrigue took over.

New Business Development - Maternity Cover

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

I knew my network was strong.I knew I had developed some key sales and recruitments skills along the way.But I wasn't sure what was going to come next.Recruitment was slow. The Oil & Gas market had been affected. After some time (2 weeks) thinking, and re-charging I was approached on Linkedin.Absoft. Leading SAP consultant in the Oil & Gas Upstream market were hiring. They wanted to add to their sales team. We had a chat. They wanted maternity cover. So I stepped in.The SAP market is huge, SaaS is huge. Absoft were and are the go-to SAP Upstream solutions.I worked closely with marketing to tap into other markets. Downstream & Chemicals. We were creating mobile apps that would control the efficiency and de-risk the data in the Inventory Management and Asset SAP process. The UX/MX platform was designed with Neptune in Norway and we went to market.Great time with the team. Knowledge is huge. Sales and marketing worked together. How it should be.They managed the inbound and we managed the outbound and retention of key clients.I was purely involved in new business. This is what drives me. New opportunities. New markets.Building relationships. Building trust. Sharing our knowledge. Giving customer satisfaction.Travelled to London, Germany and other areas to learn and develop in my sales training and the SAP landscape of mobile applications. Great journey and understanding of a new sales market.9 months in. A lot of learning and developing. My time was up. Maternity cover-up. Now what.

Senior Recruiter - Project Controls & Engineering

Csl Aberdeen

Aberdeen

My boss recognized my strengths from retail and sales in the photocopying world. He wanted me to be part of his growing team at CSL.I felt like a challenge. I felt like I earned the right to step into a better wage and earn my keep. But I knew, like before I would be questioned and people would look at me differently. My team was all female. Daunting to say the least. They were sceptical. He is a salesman. What does he know about recruitment?"They were right. I knew how to make a sale. How could I pivot this to recruitment?I stuck to my process. Listen, digest, offer a solution and provide value.Listen to the client. Digest the role. Offer up suitable candidates that provide value to the client.I was given the 'odd roles' the ones that no one else could fill. Red rag to a bull or salesman. This role allowed me to be more social. It allowed me to interact with the clients, find the sweet spot and then hunt the passive or non-passive candidates. For a while, I worked 7-7. Learning the ropes.I wanted to master in 'Project Controls' recruitment. We had a team of managers in Operations & Planning. They were the 'go-to' guys for vetting my work. A great help.I build up a base of candidates for my clients in Oil & Gas.The process was working. I was selling the role to the candidate. I was selling my candidate to the client. Listening, being social, being supportive, being an ear and helping change some lives. Careers.I became a real expert in the recruitment field. I used Linkedin Recruiter tool.I was beating the big firms to key roles with some clients. My team grew close and we got on really well in time. But in the summer of 2015, my life changed. The Oil & Gas price crashed and we were on a downturn. My roles dried up, the market was weak and I was left at the mercy of the company on what to do.It was still generating profit, but they were looking at long term and from Norway.I was let go, last to leave. I was gutted to say the least.

Nov 2012 - May 2015

Senior Business Development Manager

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Sales. The HARD YARDS.This for me was the toughest learning curve in my sales career to date.At the start. It was obvious that I was on my own. The new guys would welcome me, but that was it. They had their own fish to fry. KPI.So with google on bookmark "Business Finder", off I went. For me, it was about learning the basics of the product, value add, go.Understanding who and where our customers were. Everyone with a printing need. But without a sales CRM, it was tough."Yes, we have called them. Don't call them. We have a meeting with them".Until one day one of my Directors came in and said. If it isn't in the diary. Call it.So using my listening, my values skills and knowing what we did well. Off I went.We sold the best kit on the market. Konica Minolta copiers. BLI awards, year on year.We were local and 01224 based. A lot of the competition was central belt.We had local engineers and parts on site. The company grew quickly. Our sales were phenomenal.Suddenly I was getting the meetings, building the trust, using my sales techniques from retail. The other side of the room became closer. We went out for drinks. They wanted to know me.But I never truly felt part of the sales team. But we were the best in town. That I’m sure. It was always different for me. I got the buzz from the relationship and the trust and the paperwork second.I worked my ass off for minimum wage. I had to make several deals to make it worthwhile. But my process never changed. Never pushy, never on the take. I always gave my word on delivery and trust. And in 4 1/2 years in I had over 80 clients on the books. Multiple machines in the field and my parting shot was to put my Director in front of the biggest deal the company had to date.Multiple devices, onshore and offshore for a client. Revenue and GP were huge. Hard work pays off.But for me. My time was up. I had been approached by an old friend. He wanted some of my soft skills.Recruitment. Here we come.

Sep 2008 - Nov 2012

Boss Black Tailoring Manager

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Wow.For a guy that was into fashion. Into cut, cloth, colours, range, quality. I was in the right role.HUGO BOSS opened on 245-247 Union Street. It was a joint effort with CRUISE opening on the other side of the marble walls and staircase. It was like pandoras box, birthday and xmas all at once.Aberdeen had not seen the likes of such stores as they were mainly in Edinburgh, Glasgow and south.I was given the role of managing the Boss Black - Tailoring and Mainline label. Upstairs. My own floor. My own ideas. My own purpose. My P&L.I loved it. It felt like the hard work before had paid off. I loved merchandising the walls weekly.I learned about the collections before arrival.I trained my team and delivered presentations on cut, cloth and up-sell.I had a valued customer base that came back to see me.I had my own tailor Ahmed from AA Alterations visit me and show me the ropes.I was flown to Camden HUGO BOSS HQ twice a year to see the new collections.I tailored the Aberdeen Football Club suits for the 2008/09 season. We had it all. It was a good year. A great year.My customer base was filled with Directors, Lawyers and Doctors and General Joe to.One of my customers ran a successful photocopying business.Something altered my path. I reached out and asked the question."Hey, its Kev. Do you have any sales roles going"."Yes. Come up and see me Monday".Nerves where at full tilt. What was going on. I loved what I did.But the feeling in my stomach felt good.We parted on good terms. It meant a lot. We had a great year. The hard work starts now.

Aug 2007 - Sep 2008

Senior Exec - Tailoring/Casualwear

Aberdeen, United Kingdom

At first, I thought browsing was something that everyone did. Come in, browse the aisles and walk out.Slaters Menswear was different. We were experts in our craft. My boss would say. "If they came off the high street, and up those stairs, they are here to buy".Your job is to listen, advise and guide them to what they are looking for.At first, it was daunting. A new way of retail revenue for me. The art of listening. This is a soft skill that led me into the art of customer service and sales.Listen, digest, provide a solution, build trust and build a relationship. Bag in hand. Money in till.We also had a SWAP system in place at Slater Menswear. To keep it short. When a customer comes into the store. You are allocated to them. They may want help instantly, they may want to browse. Your job was to get the signal early. If within two to three minutes you didn't get a vibe, you had to go to the floor manager and ask for a SWAP.He would then decide to put someone else in. Perhaps someone with a better fit or approach. This would depend on the customer persona. Not an easy job, but it worked.I have never seen such a well-oiled retail operation to this day. NEVER.I was becoming the 'go-to' guy for looking good.People would ask for me by name. I would be on lunch at times but Billy would get me on the floor.I felt proud that people returned to see me. Because I made them look and feel good.I sensed something change in me. I sensed I was feeling satisfaction based on customer satisfaction.I was getting the buzz not just for the sale, but the service, the technique, the process. Then I was 'head-hunted'There was a new store opening in town. The buzz around it was huge.I had to be part of it. I was ready for the next step.In my interview, I sold them a suit. From greeting to till. Job done. Job offered.I also cried as I left Slater Menswear. We were a tight bunch. Worked hard. Laughed hard.Time to move onto a larger outfit. HUGO BOSS was in town.

Oct 2002 - Aug 2007

Graphic Layout Artist

Duotool

So off the roofs and into college. HND in Graphic Design. 8 merit passes. Done. Now what. Ah. A job. So with all the other graduates coming out at the same time the heat was on. It’s was tough. I came across a role for a layout artist for a small business in Ellon who developed and produced mail shot catalogues for power tools, fixings, fastenings and all other tool shop requirements. We took the photos. We published the catalogues. The Sales team sold to the market. Good role but I was unlucky and was laid off as the catalogues was not hitting the revenue it had hoped and they shut that arm of the business. What now.? Did I enjoy sitting at my desk doing it.?I felt like I lost my voice a little. Some soul searching and then an ad popped up in the paper. “Sales Executive for local Menswear Outfitter”Application in.

Jeep Builder & Action Man Aisle Vp

Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom

So off to college I went. Grant awarded. Small one bit I needed other sources of income for beers and all sorts.I applied for a part time role at the infamous Toys R us. As I walked in the building and down the aisles I was in awe of what a place this was. My interview was in the back office so that allows me the chance to see the warehouse and the build zone. This is what drew me in. Bikes and jeeps being built in the back for customers who has purchased and had them set up for them.So I got the role and was working part time after college and on a rota wknd. It was quite literally the best two years of my life at the time. I made good friends (some girlfriends), we had nights out and also worked the night shift on the run to Xmas. Wow. I was given charge of the Action Man aisles to keep stocked and in line with program layout. VP of Action Man and my co worker has Barbie at the other side. Then I would break the night up by building some jeeps for customers and launching myself off the top racks in the warehouse onto the melee of mattresses. S&&t did I say that out loud. We had it all. Party, work, footie, pizza, we were on top form as a company and as a branch. Sad time’s also as my friend Willy passed away after a 5 a side match at Goals. He was fit as a fiddle. That day hurt and we all buried him with our tops from 5 a side. I miss him. I have some great memories from my time there and the time between college and part time work. College was soon finishing. The masses would be looking for that elusive 5 or 6 slots of work from all the college leavers. Best get to work on my next move. FT.

Roofer

Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom

I came out of school unsure of what lay next.Honestly, the sun was shining and my pal and I had a pint and he said, "you fancy the roofs with my dad".I thought. Beer tokens, money in hand, graft and sun on my back."Yes, let's do it".It broke me. I was not ready for the (very very very) hard work that it entailed. It was tough and a big learning curve for sure. Something wasn't right though.I had a skill in art..........

Jul 1995 - Jun 1997

Time Booker

Hazelhead Golf Club

Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom

I played golf.I had to book a time.So I booked times for others also. The seniors were lazy, or they couldn't be bothered getting up at 'dark o'clock' to stand in the queue at Hazlehead Golf Club at 3 in the morning, to wait for Toni de Start to come into his box and put the time sheet out.So I did it for them.... and booked a time for myself FOC while I was at it.Charged them £10 a time and then my one was FREE. Winner. Was I tired. No. I was living on youth, adrenaline and my love for golf. Was I already in sales?
