The role includes Safex trading and position management as well as implementation of sunflower seed crush hedging (seed, oil and meal).Also accountable for procurement of protein ingredients other than soya for all of Epol’s feed mills.Both roles include sourcing, pricing, risk management (hedging), contract preparation and management, logistics/distribution, stock management and budget preparation.

Accountable for procurement of all major ingredients other than grains for all of Epol’s mills. This includes sourcing, pricing, risk management (hedging), contract preparation and management, logistics/distribution, stock management and budget preparation. Management of imported materials involves taking positions on Chicago Board of Trade, basis, freight and currency. On some local materials Safex trading is involved.

Accountable for all Technical Feed Aspects for Epol and Rainbow and to direct the overall process of Feed Formulation, Product Registration, Quality Control and Research & Development. This also included support to the Sales Team and accountability for Epol’s Technical Agreements with Livestock Feeds in Mauritius and Irvine’s Day Old Chicks in Zimbabwe.The original title of this position was National Technical Manager. In August 2000 it was upgraded to a Directorship (Technical Director). In January 2003 Epol was incorporated as a Division of Rainbow Farms (Pty) Ltd. and the position was changed to Senior Executive Technical as Epol ceased to have Directors. This position was held until February 2004.

Area manager for 8 breeder farms of around 40 000 breeders per farm including all aspects of planning (cleanout, placement, depletion, feed, vaccination, maintenance, etc.), budgets (capital and expenditure), cost management (variance analysis), human resource management (development, motivation, shop steward meetings, safety/OHSA, etc.) and production management (feed and light programmes, egg handling, ventilation, problem solving, etc.).

Duties included checking of feed formulation optimisation; conducting feed ingredient price evaluations; the preparation and analysis of feed costing and consumption reports; ensuring that specifications and procedures were met regarding ingredients used, feed specifications, ingredient matrices, feed quality, feed delivery, feed ordering and feed utilisation. Preparation of feed cost and consumption budgets, forecasts on ingredient supply and pricing. Liaison with suppliers of feed ingredients and feed additives.
