Base Network Operations Manager
Working on one of the Marine Corps largest sites, the Base Network Operations Manager monitored and planned day-to-day operations of the local team, monitors performance of the Legacy and NMCI networks. Ensures schedules are adhered to for implementation and roll out. Works with EDS and other partners to ensure everyone understands the network design as proposed by Wam!Net Engineers. The BNOM coordinates the schedules of the supporting engineers and technicians. Coordination includes the support of over 14000 seats that the enterprise has Assumption of Responsibility (AOR) for, the build out of a Regional Server Farm and the installation of the NMCI centric network equipment to include any reuse of legacy gear in the NMCI environment. Variables are collected and submitted to upper management to include seat counts via claimant, Base Infrastructure Installation information by the various partners, as well as, reporting any situations that may prevent seat roll out. The BNOM also works as the Base Installation Infrastructure Manager (BIIM), which insures and coordinates with all Information Strike Force partners the work that is needed to be accomplished to support NMCI seat roll out by the dates set by EDS. The BIIM also insures that the Infrastructure Worksheet is up to date and is usable by all partners. All tasks that are completed are recorded and information updated on the Base Infrastructure Installation worksheet that is submitted to the Regional Manager on a weekly basis.
Network Engineer Ii
The Network Engineer II worked with other Wam!Net employees to help build, maintain and troubleshoot the Navy/Marine Core Intranet for Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune. Working as a Network Engineer, participation in Information Strike Force Joint Surveys to determine switch sizes based on potential seat count of a particular site location. This position also participated on in various round table sessions to validate with all partners the various Cisco Switch selections associated with various buildings on site. Legacy Network maintenance and documentation was also associated with this position. The Legacy network consisted of ten distribution zones utilizing a variety of Enterasys Switches and routers that include the 9000, 8600, 6000 and 2200 series switches and routers. Local document maintenance was also coordinated via this position to include the new Navy/Marine Corp BAN/LAN documents that were passed down to the local site, also documentation to identify Legacy Network equipment that can and can not be used for Reuse based on equipment age, protocol suites used and serviceability.
Network Engineering Manager
As the Network Engineering Manager, I was tasked to assemble a team of professionals, budget and design a tier 3 communications network. The network designed was a 173-mile single mode fiber network utilizing Cisco’s 15454 Optical Nodes to carry an OC48 ATM backbone between various telephone company collocations. Each collocation had a DSLAM, RAS servers (Cisco AS5300’s), various routers and switches. This network was capable of VT tunneling allowing the company to sell any circuit from a dialup to an OC48. Knowledge of OSPF, TCP/IP, ATM was imperative in this role. The Global Systems network supported over 6000 dialup/ISDN customers, 500 DSL customers and over 150 Frame Relay Customers. The design of the ATM network to our Frame Relay Switches was also overseen by this position. Cisco 8540 and 8510 were used for this with the smaller 8510 supporting our Video TeleConference (VTC) network located in various high schools and colleges. Management of the DNS, Radius, TACACS+ and mail servers was ultimately the responsibility of the Network Engineering Manager. This position was also responsible for the design and implementation of customers’ private and public networks including VPN, mail and server solutions and also includes obtaining, maintaining and subnetting of blocks of IP addresses for internal and customer use.
Communications Network Manager
As the Communications Network Manager with the nation’s largest pork producer, I developed, planed, budgeted, implemented and project managed the design and building of a new multi-million dollar data center, designed and created the Frame Relay Wide Area Network, Fiber Metropolitan Area Network, LAN based Internet Access, Remote Access Servers, E-mail Systems, AS/400 access between clients and AS/400 and revamped the current Network Design currently used by Murphy Family Farms. All communications Budgets were kept, reviewed and maintained by this position. I am currently a Novell Certified Network Administrator and worked with Novell, AS/400, Windows NT, Citrix and Windows 95 operating systems.
Computer Technician I
As the schools systems Computer Technician, I created network standards for the PC and communication systems for the county schools. Each school had a computer lab installed and a fiber backbone installed to the classroom to eliminate bandwidth needs. I coordinated the installation of all workstations, servers, including CD Servers, ATM connections to the NC Information Highway, and all network designs had to be approved by this position.
