A representative of Dublin City Council and Irish Water I am responsible for carrying out inspections on Food Service Establishments which were non-compliant with Section 16 of The Local Government (Water Pollution) and Water Services Acts. I then prepare a report and the premises would be given a timeframe to comply with the appropriate regulation or licence condition, giving assistance and training where required. I am also responsible for preparing legal files in instances where these conditions were not met and giving expert evidence in court. This involves liaising with DCC legal and the premises involved. Training of new inspectors as required.

Epa Cork

A seasonal role each summer over the past 3 years, working with an EPA biologist on a seasonal contract. We together carried out macrophyte sampling analysis on lakes in the Munster region. In this role I gained skills in identifying aquatic plant species and their associated value in assessing lakes ecological status. I was responsible for maintaining checking the boat and equipment, disinfecting these between lakes to prevent the migration of invasive species. Some experience also gained in the Q-value assessment of rivers, identifying macroinvertebrate diversity and quantity in determining the ecological quality of freshwater.

A representative of Dublin City Council and Irish Water I was responsible for regular inspections of over 250 food service establishments focusing on the councils Fat, Oil and Grease programme and also food waste regulations, inspecting onsite equipment, storage facilities and documentation for these and providing ongoing training on best management practices. I was responsible for writing reports on each inspection and identifying new establishments that required inspection in my area.

Cork

An internship programme. My main responsibility was the environmental monitoring of a number of closed landfill sites. This included groundwater/surface water sampling, perimeter gas/water well monitoring and landfill gas balancing. I was also responsible for updating data and completing reports for inclusion in the sites annual environmental report.
