• researched, assigned, and edited stories for NPR news shows such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered, as well as for NPR's website. Worked under daily deadline and on longer timeframes. • supervised NPR reporters, local member station reporters, and freelancers. • created, as part of a team, a new process to improve NPR’s planning and writing obituaries of prominent people. This resulted in stronger stories and quicker publication/broadcast of those stories.• conceived of and created a collaboration between NPR and Arts/Culture reporters at member stations across the U.S. This allowed reporters to share ideas with each other and to pitch stories to the network more effectively. • helped plan NPR’s coverage of TV reviews and interviews with actors, writers, and directors. • During holiday periods, I supervised and coordinated coverage of all NPR daily news operations as Deputy Managing Editor.

• researched, wrote, and voiced stories across the American Southwest and northern Mexico. • My primary subject beat was border security and immigration. I travelled the US-Mexico border from San Diego to Brownsville and away from the border, followed stories such as Arizona’s SB-1070 and Sheriff Arpaio controversies. • travelled extensively to cover a number of Presidential, Senate, and Congressional elections as well as natural and man-made disasters including wildfires and the Giffords mass shooting. • I covered features ranging from drug addiction in New Mexico, water conservation in Las Vegas, and the world’s largest rose bush in Tombstone, Arizona. • I worked collegially with a team of reporters and editors on NPR’s National Desk.

• reported, wrote, and appeared on-camera. Stories included crowding in National Parks, drought in the West, and struggles to save the lives of migrants crossing the Arizona desert.
