Ted is a skilled litigator who focuses his practice on discovery-related issues in complex commercial and class action litigation. After years of managing high-profile complex civil litigations, Ted is an experienced advisor regarding preservation of evidence, strategic discovery negotiations and management, the use of technology in litigation, and all aspects of judicial advocacy and motion practice related to the discovery process. Ted draws upon his expertise as a skilled negotiator in the discovery arena to help clients navigate and minimize the risks, disruption to business, and costs associated with litigation. Prior to managing BakerHostetler’s EDAM team or more than 25 skilled attorneys and technologists, Ted served as the discovery lead for the BakerHostetler legal team serving as court-appointed counsel to Irving H. Picard, the Securities Investor Protection Act (SIPA) Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BLMIS). To date, the team has recovered more than $14 billion of the funds stolen as part of the Madoff Ponzi scheme for the benefit of customers. Ted currently serves as eDiscovery counsel to Fortune 50 corporations and leading educational institutions, and is a faculty member for the Sedona Conference’s annual eDiscovery Negotiation Training. Ted also serves as the pro bono coordinator for BakerHostetler's New York office and is a leader in the fight for equal civil rights. Most recently, Ted led a team with the Human Rights Campaign that successfully enjoined the Department of Health and Human Services from promulgating a rule that permitted discrimination against trans and gender non-conforming individuals under the Affordable Care Act. Ted also filed amicus briefs in the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of many of America's leading corporations in furtherance of their commitment to diverse and inclusive workplaces in support of trans students' rights to use school bathrooms reflecting their gender identity. Ted currently serves as co-counsel in a case against the City of Rochester and the Rochester Police Department for police brutality during the 2020 peaceful Black Lives Matter protests. Ted has also as successfully represented individuals from Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, and Venezuela fleeing persecution in their home countries based on sexual orientation and HIV status in both administrative proceedings and in U.S. Immigration Court.In 2019, Ted was nominated "LGBT+ Equality Lawyer of the Year" by Chambers and Partners.
