As a leader on the Academic Programs team, the Specialized Programs and Behavioral Health Specialist (SPBH) plays a crucial role in ensuring KIPP Texas realizes its mission through supporting schools and regions by providing high-quality specialized programs. The SPBH is responsible for providing expert support in behavior management and instructional strategies for specialized programs, including Life Skills, Behavior Redirection, Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), and Autism programs. This role involves collaborating with educators, administrators, and families to ensure that students in these programs, as well as those with behavior concerns in inclusion settings, receive individualized support fostering academic and behavioral success. Additionally, the SPBH supports the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) behavior process to address the needs of all students.

As a College Counselor, my roles and responsibilities have been Manager of standardized Testing, CO-Manager of Junior Seminar, Manager of Junior Advising, and Adviser of 84 Juniors (40) and Seniors (44). As the Manager of Standardized Testing, I assisted students with registration for SAT, ACT, and ASVAB. My first year as Junior seminar Instructor, I participated in SAT Prep training to deliver and effective SAT Prep course to 11th grade students. After completing of their first test, I separated students in to tiers for more test prep that targeted their individual needs for growth. As manager of Junior Asvising, I created and organized an advising model that adequately prepared 11th grade students for the college application process. I facilitated Junior parent meetings, held one on one meetings with students and families to educate them on important dates and deadlines for college access, and assisted completion of financial aid applications and documents, including the FAFSA and the verification process. Furthermore, Each spring I lead a groups of students from 7 YES Prep campuses on college visits around LA, DC, and Central Texas, to expose them to colleges and build their college going identities. As Co-Manager of Junior Seminar, I aided the current teacher on curriculum and alignment. This was to ensure that what students were completing in class was aligned to the conversations students were having with their college counselor. Topics included completing the FAFSA, building a college resume and essay, building a great and realistic college list, and preparing for the SAT/ACT.
