Maker

Maker Faire Orlando

Orlando, Florida Area

Exhibitor at Maker Faire Orlando, the projects have included:2014: Virtual racing cockpit, engineered using an aluminum framing system, a dashboard modeled in CAD and 3D printed to house a digital instrument cluster that displayed live data from a PC that ran a racing sim and outputted telemetry data over serial comms to an Arduino that processed the packets and sent signals to the digital gauges mounted above the steering wheel controller. 2015: A 3D printer that dispensed custom frosting designs on cookies based on user input on a touch screen involving a Python based GUI and a custom designed robotic workcell with a frosting-dispensing head. 2016: Real-time projection arena. Small arduino-powered RC cars on a table were controlled by attendees' smartphones that were connected to a WiFi router that redirected their browser to a touch-control interface. A short-throw projector overhead displayed a gaming environment developed in Unity featuring a soccer field and a virtual ball. Attendees drove their real RC cars into the virtual ball, and an Intel RealSense camera tracked the positions of IR LEDs on top of each vehicle to update their virtual avatar in the game to simulate hitting the soccer ball. Data collected by the camera passed from a Python script to Unity and updated the position of the vehicles. User input traveled to the PC and was outputted serially to a strip of IR LEDs that issued commands to each vehicle on the field.2017: Repurposed the cookie frosting printer to be a "block clock". An electromagnet mounted to the head of the workcell picked up numbered blocks and rearranged them to show the current time. Used a Raspberry Pi running a custom Python script to communicate over serial to an Arduino running motion control software to drive the stepper motors for all the axes.
