Terri has over forty years of nursing as experience providing patient care as both an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) and Registered Nurse (RN) in a variety of healthcare settings across the healthcare continuum. She utilizes a holistic interdisciplinary approach to address healthcare problems. To link research to practice and to advance knowledge , she adopts philosophies and research methodologies from other disciplines to understand the practice of nursing and patient/family perspectives of their experiences. Terri received her MS and PhD from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Over the years, she has been a strong advocate for listening to the needs of patients and their families. The PhD process prepared her to utilize both quantitative and qualitative methods to provide a more comprehensive approach to understanding the meaning of patient and family experiences. Throughout her career she has had interest in exploring motivational patterns that influence an individual’s ability to adopt a healthy lifestyle, mindfulness practice, and the integration of art and nature into the delivery of care. She currently serves as Assistant Professor in the TanChingfen Graduate School of Nursing at UMass Chan Medical School designing curriculum that challenges students to define health from a holistic approach, incorporates design thinking for innovation and various art forms to facilitate exploration, expression, self-reflection, and dissemination of knowledge. As a longstanding member of the Humanities Committee at UMass Medical School she has mentored both nursing and medical students and served as academic advisor for the development of scholarly projects. Terri has coordinated interdisciplinary workshops in partnership with the Worcester Art Museum, using art to improve visual literacy, diagnostic skills, and collaboration.As a member of the Healing Environment Council, she promoted collaboration between architects, art, and landscape consultants to create the Cancer Pavilion at UMMHC-Marlborough. Through the integration of interdisciplinary research, best practice, and design expertise, this facility was constructed to provide comprehensive care in an environment that communicates a spirit of hope, relaxation, and restoration.Most recently, Terri served as Design Research Analyst at CAMA Inc. marrying her expertise in nursing, healthcare experiences, knowledge development, and the humanities to create environments that promote healing and well-being.
