I started my offshore career as a Tender/Trainee Air Diver with Algosaibi on the Lillian 29 in 1977. Did my Air Course in a gravel pit at Eye, Peterborough. The highlight being Ted's demonstration of the flammable properties of O2 using a Benson & Hedges! Probably did one of the last dives with SCUBA in the North Sea with CUE in 1979 and the last of the PAYE wages. Started with the old KD Marine on Piper and Claymore, lost count of the number clamps we put on those two platforms! Then onto the Heerema barges working the Dutch and Danish sectors also Brazil and India installing jackets with the old steam driven piling hammers which meant the pile guides had to be cut off once the piles were grouted in by Wimpy! First Sat in Brazil before get my ticket at Fort Bill so the HSE would let me work in the North Sea. Did my Supervisors exams wearing the fist red nose for Comic Relief in 1988. Vicky did know what to make of us, 'some of you guys are not taking this seriously', she was right! Once out of the water began the endless courses, Leadership, PTW, NEBOSH, Audits etc. It all got a bit boring trying to pretend to be a grown up. Some good heavy Construction jobs on the Uncle John with Uncle Tom especially the Welding in Norway. A job with no budget or expense spared! So in 2011 I decided to take my gap year and complete the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. They say it will change your life, but I finished the Race on Friday and joined the Seawell the following Monday. And so it continues.......
