My experience has been ordering parts and accessories to service the chemical processing industry. In my tenure at Duriron/Aquacare, the focus was on metering pump part components and accessories for the flow system the pumps would be a part of. I began my journey there in the customer service department which included sizing and choosing pumps for a customer's needs. This required me to be familiar with different types of metal alloys and plastics, for corrosion resistance and wear from the differing types of chemicals. When I moved into the purchasing/inventory at Duriron, I then learned how to order metal and plastic parts from vendors. Sometimes the source would supply the material and the labor, sometimes we would source the metal or plastic raw material and send it to the vendor who would be machining the part. We also had a small machine shop in house that would require raw materials.Some of the metals I became accustomed to dealing with are Carbon Steel and Stainless in various grades, Alloy20, Hastelloy, Titanium, Tungsten Carbide, Monel and Inconel. There were other "exotic" alloys depending on the Chemical application.Prince Rubber and Plastics, as the name represents, used primarily plastic and rubber components. Prince subcontracted much of their machining and concentrated on fabrication. I continue to gain experience in the different types of process industries. Towards the end of my tenure there, they were expanding more into molding plastic parts in house. I became familiar with plastic and rubber materials from both a machining standpoint and the molding process. Prince Rubber's main market is the Chlorine industry, but they also service the pharmaceutical, medical, automotive and gas industries.Purchasing included but not limited to materials in the rubber and plastics such as: EPDM, Neoprene, Pure Gum, Viton, SBR, PVC CPVC ABS Polypropylene, UHMW, PTFE and the modified PTFE.
