About Terry Platt

Expertise: Sustainability in educational innovation, effectiveness of educational interventions, biomolecular mechanisms of gene expression, and protein-nucleic acid interactions.My current interests include small-group cooperative learning, gender parity issues, diversity, mentoring, and leadership development, which began with my Peace Corps teaching experience in Tanzania (East Africa) that has deeply informed my subsequent research and teaching career. Recent activities have involved educational research and practice, focusing on sustainable innovations to make teaching and learning more effective for both students and faculty. At the University of Rochester I have participated in successfully establishing the Center for Workshop Education in the College, disseminating the Workshop Program across campus, developing the UCIS Leadership in Education cluster and expanding it to include graduate students, and participating with the UR Year 1 and Future Faculty initiatives on the River Campus. I am in my 9th year on the Board of Trustees of the Harley School, an independent N-12 institution in Rochester, where I have served on numerous committees (currently co-chair of Development). My prior research interests included transcription termination and mRNA 3’ end formation in both E. coli and yeast (publishing to date over 100 research papers, review articles, and book chapters).
