I’ve long had an interest in in Engineering, but then that’s probably because my Father and two older brothers are engineers too. At an early stage in my career solving technical problems led me back to University to do a PhD and then back into industry as part of a spin out company from Aberdeen University. Deploying new technology became a passion, finding new ways of working with existing technology, an enjoyable challenge. These two manifested when we set up Proterra Energy in 2012, and we have been finding ways to bring old turbines back into service, and deploying newer technology in locations and sites that didn’t fit the straightforward approach of others. This has ranged from very early hydro turbines, over 100 years old, to integrating solar technology with process systems at distilleries to maximise output. As energy mind sets shift we are pursuing our programme of Taking Offgrid - On grid with our first multi-site mini grid project starting and two others planned for this year. In recent years, building and growing our business and our team has taken precedence over being a main part of the deployment. The same journey I followed in the Oil & Gas Industry before Proterra, but I’m still involved and still enjoy it.I am a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Materials.
