"Leader." "Innovator." "Strategist." "Decision maker." Many people on LinkedIn who use those words to describe themselves. They're all true of me. But, important as those are, they aren't what make me uniquely valuable. Here's what does: I understand enthusiast markets and can translate that understanding into actionable, successful business and product strategies, whether that product is a model train, a magazine, or a video startup. More specifically, not only do I understand enthusiast markets in general, I know several in great detail. I'm an enthusiast myself, so I understand the passion and commitment that leads people to spend their money and, even more importantly, their time following their enthusiasm. I can communicate that enthusiasm, or lead others in doing so.And, I have a proven track record of using that understanding to create market strategies, product strategies, and even specific products that meet the needs of enthusiasts, sometimes even before they realize those are the products they need. I'm happy to talk at length about things like brand equity, positive value propositions, the different strategic and operational uses of products, and dozens of other aspects of product strategy and management, because I enjoy them. I like the thinking and I relish the challenges. I've enjoyed where my career journey has taken me, and developing the skills that allow me to help my employers and my colleagues succeed. I like knowing that my work can help someone relax, or take the edge off a bad day.
