Throughout my career, I have consistently demonstrated ingenuity in problem-solving, technology adoption, and efficiency optimization. If I stitched together all the firsts of my career with a common thread, it would be ingenuity. Ingenuity in how I solve problems, learn new technologies to get things done, and approach every hurdle as an opportunity to do the most efficient and effective job possible, regardless of the task.Ingenuity comes in many forms. It comes in the form of simplicity in order to perform a task faster. It comes in the form of being resourceful to complete a job with what you have in front of you. It comes in the form of taking a risk to achieve new insights by not doing things the same way just because it has always been done that way.My first job ever, at 14, was picking strawberries. I could earn a bonus per carton if I filled over a certain number of cartons each shift. Others filled one at a time. I filled 3 at a time, knowing I could carry 3 without dropping any strawberries. I strategically placed them to minimize hand movement, produce more and save walking time. My fill rate was three times faster than every other person.My first office job was at a car dealership. I typed the triplicate forms for the banks. One mistake on the forms meant starting over, wasting time and money. I taught myself to write my first computer program to fill out every single form so printing would be perfect the first time.My first job in Columbus was typing architecture+engineering spec books for military bases. Perfection was required in both format and content. I wrote a program in Word that formatted each document in seconds, saving 200 hours per spec book, split across 3 full-time people.My first IT job is where I found my creative side. I taught myself Photoshop to remove spots, scars, and correct bad lighting in pre-touchup photos. I created the brand Intranet from scratch using HTML and ColdFusion. I loved every minute!Over my career, I have worked in various areas and have performed various functions. No matter what level of work I am performing, it is performed with the same level of detail and innovation. I don’t need change but embrace it. I can be placed in any area and thrive.Ingenuity is the common thread in all of my career firsts. And in everything that I do. Ingenuity is the foundation on which my three personal creeds sit:1. Do the right thing even when no one is watching.2. Base every decision on reality.3. Humility strengthens me and every relationship I have with others.
