Directed the space and renewable power system development activities at Rocketdyne, where two United Technologies Companies, Pratt & Whitney and Hamilton Sundstrand, co-existed and shared operational resources. Our organization was responsible for the development of advanced power systems; with recognized expertise in systems engineering, liquid metal heat transfer, radioisotope power and advanced space systems. Managed the Business Development organization for the Hamilton Sundstrand - Space, Land & Sea business. Integrated five business segments and seven different sites into one structured Business Development unit.

Profit and loss responsibility for Advanced Power Systems, including program execution on Multi-Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (MMRTG) which is the main power source for the NASA/JPL Curiosity Rover which landed on Mars in August of 2012. Our group was also responsible for a multitude of other power technology contracts supporting the NASA exploration initiatives, including the Jupiter Icy Moon Orbiter (JIMO), where I was the Deputy Program Manager and responsible for the Space Nuclear Power Plant (SNPP). Our team also formulated the business strategies and developed the long range business plan for Advanced Power Systems. Our organization generated over 40 patents which leveraged aerospace technologies into clean and renewable terrestrial energy projects.

Profit and loss responsibility for new Business Unit within Rocketdyne Propulsion and Power. Leveraged core capabilities into non-traditional markets; including the capture of coal gasification contracts with the DOE and hydrogen production teaming agreement with Howe-Baker. Captured several NASA contracts for deep space power systems, including $100M+, Multi-Mission RTG power system for planetary exploration. Solidified teaming relationships with several key customers, including: ChevronTexaco, Calpine, Howe-Baker, Siemens Westinghouse Power Company, Williams Energy, and BWX Technologies.

Developed international agreements with Daimler Chrysler of Germany and with MHI in Japan to develop new upper stage rocket propulsion systems. Also developed agreements with Volvo in Sweden, Snecma in France and several Russian entities for rocket engine technology applications.

Simultaneously supported four Prime contractors with advanced engine concepts during the initial Air Force Phase I Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) procurement. Formulated the design for a new clean sheet 650,000 lbf engine (RS-68) to support McDonnell Douglas. This multi-billion dollar program became the cornerstone for the ULA Delta IV launch system. Also supported the Boeing Company with Space Shuttle Main Engines, Alliant TechSystems with a J-2 engine and Lockheed Martin with three different Atlas engine derivatives.
