A veteran of the swimming pool industry since 1974, Terry Smith is the co-founder and principal of Platinum Poolcare Aquatech Ltd., a residential swimming pool construction, renovation and maintenance company with service to several commercial aquatic properties including the Bulls, Bears and White Sox training facilities.Platinum Poolcare, founded in 2007, specializes in all aspects of pool design, construction and renovation with added focus on specialty aquatic features such as waterfalls, lazy rivers, rock water applications, statuary and other luxury waterscape amenities, including decks and other landscaping extending beyond the pool. The non-union company also provides installation and maintenance services for its customers. Smith’s exemplary experience and long-lasting relationships in his field comes from starting out as a teenager in the pool industry, where he remains today. His first job as a service technician for Paragon Pools, quickly grew into a jack-of-all-trades role with the company through which Smith learned about all aspects of pool design, construction and maintenance. From the “grunt work” of construction, excavation, installation, maintenance and repair, to the bidding, design, and project management aspects of contract work, to financial planning and business strategy responsibilities as a corporate executive, Smith has covered full ground in the commercial and residential pool industry. In 1988, Smith, with the help of Paragon Pools founder Ronald Atlas, started Poolcare Aquatech, a pool care company focused strictly on service and repair, which Smith headed up. Almost two decades later, he teamed up with Atlas’ son James, who had started his own offshoot company, Platinum Aquatech, a high-end residential pool design and construction company.
