I work in the company creation team at Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine (CCRM). My career started in Chile, where I obtained a Master in Biochemistry, Toxicology and Molecular Diagnostics at the University of Chile while developing and testing adenoviral vectors for gene therapy. Before moving to Canada, I worked designing and producing adeno-associated viral vectors for genetic engineering in various neurodegenerative models. I obtained a PhD in Immunology at the University of Toronto, while studying the effects of diet-and microbial-derived metabolites, DNA damage and inflammation on cancer progression. Then, I joined the TIME clinical trial at Sunnybrook hospital, where I joined a team studying bacterial microbiome biomarkers that could predict response to cancer immunotherapy. During my second postdoctoral fellowship, I joined the GEM project at Mount Sinai Hospital, where I worked developing an immune assay to predict Crohn's disease onset.In 2022, I joined CCRM as a Lead Scientist, and I worked developing and optimizing platforms to genetically modify and expand immune cells. Currently, as a Manager of Technology and Venture Development, I'm applying my 14 years of research experience in genetic engineering, cancer biology, human microbiome and immunology to help accelerate the commercialization of promising early-stage regenerative medicine research.
