I am a political refugee who is currently studying social sciences and humanities at Indiana University. Early on in my life, my status as a political refugee presented unwanted hardships to my family and I. However, watching my parents find their ground in a new country helped me develop a strong sense of conviction that has empowered me to pursue my dreams and successfully confront challenges that are unprecedented for someone from my upbringing. For example, in an attempt to help bridge the segregation present in my local community, I ran for and was elected to the position of class president for my high school, a position I held my junior and senior year. As the second refugee in my schools history to be elected class president, we saw less segmentation in our township between the new refugee groups and existing community. Additionally, I worked with my classmates to better represent all under-recognized groups within the school which resulted in the promotion of more inclusive language and multilingual signs and student resources. During this time, I learned the importance of self-evaluation and openness to the perspectives of others. This has lead me to pursue learning and growth in multiple aspects and multiple fields in my life. With regards to my education and schooling, I was awarded the Perry Township "Spotlight On You" Award for my service to the community during my time in high school. Additionally, my prospects as a student allowed me to be awarded the Cox Legacy Scholarship, a full-ride to Indiana University. Outside of my interests in my education, I began running and developing and NFL analysis page where I discuss performance analytics through my self-taught and classroom learned understanding of data science and computer science, which has helped me develop robust management skills. Lastly, this pursuit also feeds into my love for competition, in which I travel around the country and compete as an amateur, competitive Call of Duty player. This interest has developed my time-management and stress management skills as in a given competition season, I may travel upwards of ten times away from school whilst also spending countless hours per day practicing. As I work towards my degree, I also intend to continue experiencing the world in as many ways as possible and to let myself be inspired by the passion and expertise of others.
