Chosen among a competitive cohort of my peers, I serve as the Associate of Social Affairs for UC Berkeley's Life Sciences Business & Entrepreneurship (LSBE) Program. As a mentor in the SEED Honors Scholars Program at UC Berkeley, I guide underrepresented minority students in STEM, helping them navigate academic challenges, scheduling, and the unique Berkeley environment. As the Founder and Head of the Inclusive Health Awareness Committee, I spearheaded the development and implementation of a strategic initiative aimed at fostering a more engaged, informed, and diverse community within our club of over 200 members. Recognizing the potential of our platform, particularly our Instagram account with a robust following of over 900 pre-med students, I devised a comprehensive plan to leverage this network for greater impact. My vision was to cultivate a space where future medical professionals could gain insights into a wide array of health issues, with a particular focus on underserved and marginalized populations including communities of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those from varied socio-economic backgrounds. This initiative was grounded in the belief that a deep understanding of diverse patient populations is crucial for improving the quality of healthcare delivery and advancing the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the medical field.To bring this vision to life, I assembled a dynamic committee of nine students, carefully selected for their diverse perspectives, encompassing different genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds. This team was instrumental in driving the committee's mission, creating impactful content, and engaging our audience in meaningful discussions around health disparities and inclusivity. The establishment of the committee was met with enthusiastic support, having been presented to 100 club members during its inception. Through our concerted efforts, we have not only elevated the level of discourse within our community but have also laid the groundwork for nurturing a generation of culturally competent, empathetic, and socially responsible medical professionals. Also through creating this committee I brought up the marginalized communities and created a space for voices who aren’t usually heard.

As Vice President of DEI, I was asked by the president of HBAB to help revamp the club's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative, which had previously been disbanded due to leadership and performance issues. I am working closely with the president and vice presidents, conducting market research and analytics to ensure DEI becomes a core foundation of the club’s mission moving forward.

I am working with one of the world's leading emotional scientist Dacher Keltner and my principal investigator Regina Ebo to examine whether intra-group empathy and moral virtues are impacted by racial identification. Do people with lower racial identification provide less empathetic responses and associate less moral virtues to in-group members? The purpose of this project is to understand the factors that contribute to people’s empathic capacity and moral judgments. Drawing from social psychology, developmental psychology, and social neuroscience, such as the role of mirror neuron systems, we can test whether ingroup membership supports empathic understanding and judgment of stimuli as morally virtuous vs not. We would also like to assess whether these judgments are moderated by level of ingroup identification.My responsibilities include support with IRB preparation, putting experiment stimuli and surveyquestions on the qualtrics platform, performing analyses on R, and discussing projectprogress and findings during our meetings. I must also show comprehension of the project inrelationship to the field and broader real-world implications.

As the first African American Captain and the only openly Queer Captain of any sport, I led the team to the CIF championships and won our league.

I helped with the adjustment of freshman back to school from online-learning and isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a CY1 Senate, I taught a classroom of 20-25 freshman the values of a Loyola student as well as various social justice issues and topics. For example, during houselessness week and LGBTQ+ awareness week I led a presentation with 3 of my peers to the freshman class on those issues respectively and how we should help those in need as allies.
