The Oregon Local Government Internship is partnership between eight local governments in the Portland area. I worked for the Cities of Tigard, Tualatin, Beaverton, and Hillsboro over the course of a year. I reported directly to the city managers, and split my time between two cities for six months and another two for the remaining six months. The purpose of this internship was to expose me to city administration, including technical, paraprofessional and/or professional projects.

The Austin City Council has a goal of being a net zero emissions city by 2050. I work as a temporary employee for the Office of Sustainability and aid staff in their efforts to develop the Austin Community Climate Plan. I compiled contact information for community and neighborhood organizations to streamline the contacting process so that we may gain input on what actions residents will take to reduce their carbon footprint. I created surveys in both English and Spanish to gain valuable insight and input from Austin residents. Ultimately, I will aid the Office of Sustainability in crafting their report and recommendations for the Austin City Council.

Researched policies and laws to aid in developing legislative proposals and responding to constituent concerns. Crafted and submitted six legislative proposals for the 84th Legislative Session, which required extensive policy and legal code research, as well as vetting of stakeholders. Drafted memos to update the Senator, attended legislative briefings and meetings, and provided background materials for committee hearings and meetings.

My policy research project is on Higher Education Productivity. I spent several months conducting research on state and institutional higher education policies. This research covered policies on transfer and articulation, student incentives, early acceleration, course sharing, and admissions in Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. I conducted phone interviews, researched academic publications, and reviewed state statutes and laws. I recently assisted in the Transfer and Articulation Policy Forum conducted at The University of Texas at Austin.

I oversaw the General Chemistry Labs at Saint Louis University under the General Chemistry Lab Coordinator. I supervised the graduate teaching assistants, the preparatory assistants, and the grading assistants. I maintained functionality of the labs, troubleshooted equipment and experiments, prepared exams and materials, ordered chemicals and equipment, maintained contact with service representatives, handled issues involving the lab and students, and did any clerical work necessary to help run the course. In addition to this, I taught several sections of the course and acted as the secondary instructor.
