It allows to fully automate the provisioning and life cycle of complex application patterns composed of compute resource (virtual servers, storage, network), middleware components (application servers, datatabases, etc.) and integrating with IT service management process (including e.g. change management, asset management, monitoring, backup/restore, security, etc.).I led the ground up design of the product architecture assembling best-of-breed technologies from different IBM brands (WebSphere, and Technology Group)and open source communities. IBM CloudBurst was the strategic IBM integrated hardware and software solution that included the IBM Software Group service management software with IBM System Group servers, network and storage components as a complete, ready to use private IaaS appliance. The solution was one of the first in the market delivering a similar solution. In IBM it was the precursor to the current IBM PureApplication server and application deployment offering.I was responsible of the design and the coordination across business unit of the teams that developed the software solution packaged in the appliance. The solution integrated the IBM Tivoli components that were the foundation of the IBM Cloud Computing reference architecture: Tivoli Service Automation Manager, Tivoli Monitoring, Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager together with VMWare vSphere management stack and ESX hypervisors and the IBM hardware x86 blade and storage systems.Moreover, after the first delivery CloudBurst hardware appliance, in few months I drove the proposal and delivery of the same software stack as a easy to deploy and configure VMWare virtual appliance package that could be used to implement a ready to use IaaS infrastructure with different third parties hardware platforms.
