I am a seventh-generation Coloradan who grew up in Denver's Park Hill neighborhood and relocated to Raleigh, NC in 2019. I have an undergraduate degree in political science and master's degrees in both urban and regional planning and public administration with an emphasis in economic and community development. I also have experience in marketing and finance. I currently work for the Durham Housing Authority and contribute to its mission of becoming Durham’s leading affordable housing developer. We serve the community at large on this critical mission with an eye on housing, but our focus is on families. We help them with the most basic need in life: shelter. We also offer our Family Self-Sufficiency program, the creation of strategic partnerships with City and County agencies to coordinate services, and our outreach programs that make it possible for deserving children and families to grow and thrive. My prior career experiences led me to work on the multifamily development team at Grubb Properties, building communities in urban areas and assisting in a wide variety of responsibilities in the acquisition, development, and property management processes, including pursuing certifications such as LEED, NGBS, and ENERGY STAR and designing innovative bicycle- and pedestrian-focused infrastructure. I assisted the Downtown Raleigh Alliance in promoting economic growth and sustainability. I facilitated the use of code-engineered cargo shipping containers for safe and sustainable construction with SG Blocks, Inc. I promoted responsible land use and sustainable development for the Urban Land Institute. While at the City and County of Denver, I led business development efforts within the agribusiness, retail, and hospitality industries for the Division of Business Development, assisted women and minority owned businesses with the Division of Small Business Opportunity, administered workforce development programs, and conducted research and analysis for the Office of the Auditor. I also helped create infrastructure planning for Leese and Associates, facilitated of the development of a green workforce for renewable energy and energy efficiency at iCAST (International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology), and supported the lobbying and legislative efforts of the Colorado Chapter of the American Planning Association after serving on its board.
