Reporting to the overall Editor, my role as Art Editor on Autosport magazine focused on the following – - Leading the art desk though the creative process, including quality checking, team management and coaching, and specific customised design projects where needed- Acting as the Autosport brand guardian across all aspects of design work..- Proofing of all aspects of the magazine, utilising a two step art checking process.- Working with the Editor, Chief Sub-Editor and Production Editor to plan in advance future magazine issues including assessing the impact of specialty features / occasions that require decisions on page allocations, commissioning of photographers and illustrators.- Making sure the pre-press workflow is smooth leading up to the subsequent deadlines.- Together with relevant department heads interpret complex Motorsport-related information, translating this into accessible designs and content with the use of Illustrations and infographics across both print and digital mediums. · Contributing to the overall design of the magazine, creating exciting layouts within the confines of a weekly publication, commissioning photographs and illustrations for the magazine as required. · Liaison with multiple stakeholders within and external to the company (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Pirelli and UBS).Taking the lead in the conceptual development and completed production of invitations, tickets, programmes and advertising material, required for the hosting of the yearly Autosport awards, which attracts the worlds top individuals within motorsport.· Assisting in the productions of annual ‘bookazines’, Autosport’s specially produced and printed feature magazines focusing on racing legends. Including the hidden story behind the Hunt/Lauda rivalry to coincide with the Hollywood film ‘Rush’.· Managing the art desk in the absence of the art editor, which primarily involves working closely with the editor, company Art Director and Group Editor to produce the issue’s front cover.· When necessary to undertake the role of production manager, collating page folders and uploading to an external reproduction company. Being the main contact point for the reproduction company and printers, trouble shooting any issues which arise.

· Working with the Art Editor and Art Director, assisting them in the complete redesign of publication, whilst taking over the responsibilities of art desk, managing the issues to ensure we still meet our weekly printing deadlines.· Developing my style of isometric maps, icons and illustrations, which have been incorporated into the brands overall design philosophy.· Providing cover for the Art Editor, managing freelancers to ensure successful press days, whilst collaborating with the Editor on the design of the issue’s front cover.· Offering inventive solutions to issues regarding feature and report template layouts in consultation with fellow staff members, demonstrating to journalists how infographics and unique illustrations can enhance their writing.· Advising on the updating of software to enhance the production process as well as creating and digitally uploading the high resolution PDFs for the iPad and online editions.· Working with the “in-house” reproduction specialist, assisting with his duties to ensure the correct colour management and that retouched images were presented in the highest quality.
