Media appearances also include Village Voice, New York Times, Cosmopolitan, USA Today and The Hindustan Times.As Chief Operating Officer from founding until 2015, Dave led recipe development, designed the marketing program, and built a 13-state distribution network from the ground up. He also built and managed critical relationships with brewers, logistics providers, packaging suppliers, distributors, retailers, festivals and consumers throughout the country. Chick Beer has been sold in Target, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Total Wines & More and in thousands of other retailers around the United States.

Dave's wife came home one day and explained that she'd had a bad customer experience while buying wine in a local liquor store. They started talking about how liquor stores were generally unfriendly environments for women. Liquor stores were dirty, poorly organized and either dimly or garishly lit. Most stores featured teetering pyramids of product, a pollution of point-of-sale signage, and leering, uninformed clerks at the counter.Research indicated that women purchased the majority of wine in the U.S. Wine is the highest-margin item in liquor stores. The idea evolved: "What if we built a liquor store that didn't look or act like a liquor store? A place where the atmosphere was organized and well-lit; where useful information was available on helpful signage, and where the clerks were actually conversant in the products? What if mothers could bring their children to a liquor store without shame? What if we could bring our own moms?"Dave and a partner founded Hair O' The Dog Wine & Spirits, a disruptive concept that quickly grew from a small store to two stores and then to a superstore. Hair O' The Dog has repeatedly been voted Best Wine Retailer of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In early 2012, Dave sold his interest to his partner for roughly 22 times his initial investment.
