As a kid, I was obsessed with technology. I would draw and cut out smartphone mockups on card stock, prototype UIs on my computer, and stay up late to watch Apple keynotes. The way hardware and software could interact and create useful, enjoyable, and novel experiences captured my imagination. Choosing to go into information technology was a natural choice.As a homeschooled student, I delved into varied subjects ranging from Literature and Comparative Government to Statistics and Economics. Through my interactions with classmates and teachers from diverse geographies, and through my experience as president of the Homeschool Model UN Club, I developed a more global perspective and an interest in current affairs. Sometimes, learning about the complex challenges facing the world was sobering, but other times I was inspired by how people found ways to adapt and move forward. Like those people, I wanted to find impactful solutions to the complex problems facing businesses and society.As an Information Systems student in SMU, I can learn how to analyse businesses and their needs while also gaining the technological skills required to meet those needs with effective solutions. As digital transformation impacts every aspect of society and the economy, I also believe it is important to have a holistic view of the forces at work in our world, beyond the bits and bytes of the technology I work with.
