Thilan is a Flight Service Coordinator at Irving Oil, where he handles the coordination and execution of aviation services for various aircrafts. He also holds a BS in Geology/Earth Science, minor in Computer Science, from the University of Peradeniya, and is pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management at the Toronto School of Management. He has a certificate in Human Resources Management from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, and a diploma in Information Technology from ESOFT Metro Campus. He has also completed the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training and the Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical from Irving Oil and Industry Canada, respectively.Besides his aviation career, Thilan is a passionate space science educator and advocate, who co-founded SEDS Sri Lanka, a student-based organization that promotes the exploration and development of space. He also founded NASA Space Apps Colombo, a local chapter of the global hackathon that challenges participants to solve real-world problems using space data. He has represented Sri Lanka at international events such as the European Rover Challenge and the South Asia First Satellite Design Hackathon, where he showcased his skills and knowledge in robotics, satellite design, and space exploration. He is driven by his goal to inspire and empower the next generation of space enthusiasts in Sri Lanka and beyond.
