Since playing a significant role in shaping nearly every aspect of Rivian’s brand through its pre- and post-IPO phases, I made the deliberate decision to exit following the IPO to focus on assisting other brands and individuals in their growth journeys. Currently, I continue to serve as an advisor to Rivian’s CEO, offering strategic guidance as the company navigates the complexities of being publicly traded. In parallel, I am consulting with a variety of brands, including Modular Medical, Kindred Motorworks, and JetZero, providing creative and design strategy to help refine their brand narratives, enhance storytelling, and drive innovation. In addition to work for various brands, I also helped to design and bring to life a number of housing units focused on the middle class in my home state of Michigan. The project looks to bring 39 units total to a property near Harbor Springs with the first tenants moving in the spring of '24.

As the Executive Creative Director, Larry assumed a pivotal leadership role over multiple cross-functional teams crucial in shaping the entire Rivian brand and marketing landscape right from its inception. His responsibilities spanned a wide spectrum, including art, creative direction, strategic planning, consumer platform design, and the creation of immersive brand experiences. Going beyond the surface, Larry and his team played a critical role in driving innovation, not only in industrial design but also in company culture and customer experience, ensuring that Rivian's mission remained the central focus across every facet of the business. Larry's journey with Rivian began in 2015, during which he played a definitive role in charting the brand's product direction and maintaining an unwavering focus on meeting customer needs. For Larry, the art of effective brand building is a profound odyssey that commences with authenticity and a genuine willingness to share one's true self. This steadfast commitment to openness and authenticity has emerged as a dynamic catalyst for change, encapsulating the very essence of Rivian's existence.

As an independent designer, strategist, and maker, I collaborated with businesses of various sizes, offering design and strategic direction rooted in customer insights. At Grand Rapids Chair, I led a pivotal project that redefined the company’s aesthetic direction, resulting in the creation of a 12-piece furniture line tailored to the hospitality industry. My work also included designing the "Double Down" chair line, which was showcased at the Sight Unseen Show in NYC during ICFF 2017, earning recognition for its innovative design.At Skidmore Studio Detroit, I directed a comprehensive brand-building and product design project that led to the development of a prototype product line of high-end waste management solutions, including the designer trash can "Bloom." Additionally, I worked closely with senior leadership at Steelcase/Coalesse to design a lounge furniture line, crafting customer-centric solutions and personally building prototypes to showcase the product's design direction.

At Altair, a global software and engineering organization with over 11,000 employees, I served as Senior Industrial Designer and Studio Leader within a small internal agency that catered to the design needs of diverse clients across various industries. As a full-service design studio, we specialized in brand, industrial, and product design.In this role, I was responsible for developing customer-centric solutions while managing and growing the studio. Key responsibilities included:Leading, pitching, and defining product solutions for high-profile clients like Nike and 3M.Facilitating numerous innovation sessions for internal teams and external clients, highlighting the power of design-led thinking in solving complex challenges.This experience honed my ability to deliver creative solutions that aligned with client needs, while managing the operational and strategic aspects of the design studio.

Greater Detroit Area

Illuminating concepts, a premier lighting design studio in the US and internationally looked to grow a team in 2010 as they aimed to design and build their own product line in connected, smart lighting systems. The internally funded startup called Intellistreets brought together a number of disciplines and over a few years brought a handful of products to life. I served as a Senior Designer on the program and helped define and conceive a host of concept ideas as the product came to life and tech ultimately was licensed to other manufacturers.

During my time at AAR I was responsible for the concept design of many aircraft cargo handling systems for both the military and commercial sector. While much of this work was concept for newly proposed programs, many projects have been put into production including the 757-200 for FedEX, The Alenia C27-J BAA system and Sikorsky S-92. AAR gave me the opportunity to take my concept work all the way through the production process. My time at AAR was valuable as it gave me a greater experience with the manufacturing, engineering and testing world.

In the early days of my career and while still studying, I worked for Leggett & Platt, a automotive controls cable maker. In the role, I ran the testing facility, designed and made prototype parts and worked closely with other design and engineering staff.
