About Thomas Beach

Shortly after retiring in 2018, I became a Fellow with the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) in Washington DC. Through this voluntary position, I am writing articles and creating web-based videos that support EESI's mission to bring expert knowledge and up-to-date research to the attention of decision-makers in Congress. Before that I worked in and out of web development for many years -- from the early days of interactive cd-roms to recent web-based data visualization and mapping libraries. It was an encounter with electronic medical records systems while working in a rehab hospital that lead to my most recent web interests: seeking ways to facilitate understanding of complex data through visualizations, mapping displays, and intuitive user-oriented functions. My work in web development emerged from a background in video production (corporate writer/producer, videographer, editor, with additional work in lighting design). I also had several stints in teaching at the high school and undergraduate levels.
