I gained experience on trimming, fitting and fabricating at KS composites. Here I was introduced to power/air tools and new materials. It was important to work closely with measuring equipment and engineering drawing to ensure the tolerances are met. This demonstrated an eye to detail, material appreciation, time-management and further developing and widening my knowledge as an engineer. Working on the Jaguar/Land Rover project, quality and meeting deadlines was crucial.

Within the workplace, I was sent on placements which gave me a good understanding of business needs, strategies and objectives. Reducing down time to increase productivity was a key objective. Bottle necking was also an issue and I had to implement ways to minimise its effect. I have been able to work to engineering drawings whether that’s symbols, single line drawings, assembly drawings or component drawing; electrically and mechanically. This gives me a better understanding on how machinery works and functions or mechanical parts operate. I have experienced a wide range of materials and components; understanding their properties is important when it comes to selection and machining. I have undertaken numerous projects like developing an engineering library which held vital machinery manuals and instructions. Sorting through bookshelves of paperwork emphasized my patience to give structure; it was key to succeed. I also implemented new lighting units and sockets around the room to allow computers to be installed. Whilst doing all this I had to manage my time through the use of a GANT chart because I had to allow time to complete planned maintenance, NVQ, and college work. Working part of any team, communication is a key attribute. This builds peer relations and understanding. I demonstrated this by being part of a team of 18 engineers; going out on team events such as building a dog friendly play area. Also going to meetings with senior management and presenting progress reports in front of all my peers demonstrated communication and confidence.
