- I have used this transition role to shape the development of DBT’s newly-created EU Hub – drawing on my EU expertise to set direction. - I have coached team members, crafted and embedded robust strategies (covering policy, people and process) and led a transformation of DBT’s approach to EU legislation

- I led teams of up to 29, including eight direct report G7s, developing services and investment policy for UK-EU negotiations, while leading BEIS services policy for trade deals with other partners.- I successfully navigated significant ambiguity and constant change to deliver for sectors covering 80% of the UK economy. - I set the direction and motivated and inspired multiple teams to deliver complex work programmes over a sustained period. I worked across Departmental boundaries and with multidisciplinary teams to surface and resolve the key issues.

- I put together and led a team which transformed outline ideas for the UK-EU trade agreement on services into comprehensive, robust proposals. I overcame significant obstacles to gain cross-Government agreement to my work.- I overlaid enormous amounts of technical detail with big picture thinking, working with the Ministers and very senior officials to set a clear direction for multiple policy teams across Departments.- I created and led an innovative cross-Whitehall network to drive fast-paced delivery.

- I carved out the negotiating options for the UK-EU trade agreement on goods. Despite significant time pressures, I balanced a range of political, analytical and legal priorities to reach clear recommendations on one of the most technically complex agendas in the EU exit process – covering 50+ EU Directives. - I built a strong network of experts across Whitehall. By seeking their challenge and input to my proposals, I built trust and firmly established BEIS’s leadership of the agenda.- I drove ambitious business stakeholder engagement programmes. I owned key Director-level relationships with external stakeholders, carefully building my credibility with them and drawing on this to push work forward.

- I successfully lobbied the European Commission to pursue UK priorities – potentially delivering £billions of cost savings to UK businesses on areas such as health and safety and workers’ rights – when launching its flagship better regulation programme.- I used discussions with senior officials in the Commission and in the European Parliament to drive support for the introduction of EU-level burden reduction targets.- I led innovative cross-Whitehall seminars ensuring that Departments mainstreamed Ministers’ better regulation priorities into their plans for live EU negotiations.

- I persuaded MEPs and other senior external stakeholders – both in London and Brussels – to support Ministers’ EU better regulation objectives.- As Private Secretary to the Europe Director, I managed a £3.5m administration budget, ensuring value for money and spending within 0.1% of allocation at end-year. - I led UKTI Seoul’s largest ever business outreach project (400+ businesses reached).- I regularly supported Ministers in sensitive stakeholder discussions ahead of the Browne Review on higher education fees and funding.
