Educating the public on the proper use of Forest Preserve and provide information on trail conditions and Rules and Regulations. Educate the public regarding current topics that could influence fragile ecosystems. Notify the Forest Ranger and Forester about potential problems such as hazardous trail conditions, public use, and emergencies encountered. Perform minor trail maintenance activities include removing blowdown, installing or replacing trail markers and signs, trail brushing, cleaning drainage devices, removing/rehabilitating primitive campsites and work with other staff as requested. Record each day’s activities in a Daily Log book, use a portable radio to communicate with dispatch, Forest Rangers, Foresters and other DEC personnel. Monitor public use and ecosystem condition, reporting on them according to prescribed protocols. Perform first aid and CPR in emergencies, and participate in DEC training as required and provide support for existing volunteer networks on trail maintenance.

Repairing chainsaws for forestry classes, running equipment such as sawmills, dump trucks, and other forestry equipment. I also work plowing snow, boiling sap, clearing and maintaining sap lines as well as assist in teaching the sugarhouse lab class.
