At the end of 2017, he transitioned into Commercial Operations where he acted as the Day Ahead Trading Analyst for the Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCo). In this role, Thomas was responsible for designing and performing quantitative studies of historical and forecasted prices, system loads, fuel costs, and determination of the position of Xcel’s power system portfolio in Colorado which included 4,000 MWs of wind, 500 MWs of utility scale solar, pump storage, hydro, natural gas and coal. Thomas leveraged these studies to model trading opportunities as well as determine costs and savings for Xcel’s power portfolio. Thomas then accepted a new position in October of 2020 as a Trading Analyst within the PSCo group to focus on post analysis of Real Time operations and to assist with PSCo's integration into SPP's Western Energy Imbalance Service market. In October of 2022, Thomas joined Lightsource bp as the Manager of Business Development supporting wholesale market fundamentals and curve guidance in all US Markets. Thomas supports the Business Development, M&A, and Structured Finance teams throughout all stages of development by being the inhouse expert on long term revenue assumptions that tie to energy prices, capacity prices, ancillary service, and market design. In 2024, Thomas transitioned into long term origination for solar and storage projects in WECC.
