My research and technology development has spanned a range of environmental and clean-energy applications, with the primary goal of reducing greenhouse emissions associated with energy systems. I have utilized my educational training and research experience in civil, mechanical, and environmental engineering, as well as in Earth Sciences, to solve multi-disciplinary problems. My research includes aquifer thermal energy storage, geothermal energy, subsurface seasonal heat storage, granular-media heat storage, and geological CO2 storage, with a focus on active reservoir management to assure safe and secure CO2 storage. I am co-inventor of a portfolio of clean-energy technology, disclosed in issued and submitted patents, which includes synergistic integration of geothermal energy production with geological CO2 storage. Recent patents have focused on hybrid-energy systems for supplying carbon-neutral and carbon-negative heat to power and industrial-heat applications, such as in clean hydrogen by steam methane reforming (SMR) and water/gas shift, fractional distillation of crude oil, cement, and steel manufacturing.
