I started my career in the British Army (REME), successfully completing the basic military training programme and becoming an electrical engineer. After a couple of varied posts, I became an apprentice roofer, quickly progressing to Team Leader. Enjoying the challenge of managing a team to deliver projects, I successfully established my own business and won various contracts to supply roofing services. Coinciding with the downturn in the economy, I returned to education, studying at Durham University to achieve a BSc (Hons) 2:1 in Geology. I believe that the experience that I have gained in the workplace to date has contributed to a number of transferable skills including: Delivering high quality outputs to tight deadlines.  Leading multi-disciplined teams remotely. Managing direct reports and influencing indirect reports. Setting and controlling budgets. Adapting communication to meet the needs of a varied audience.
