Crew leader of a four member crew on a moose herbivory study. Collected data using an index that summarizes the health of winter range willow communities across six different regions in Wyoming. Willow community health and productivity (-/+) may become a strong predictor of moose population trends and game management strategy in Wyoming. Attention to detail identifying plants, following protocol precisely, organizing schedule, logistics, crew management, off-road driving, trailer hauling, data backup and compilation.

Assisted in beginning phase of a five year study focused on the population dynamics and habitat ecology of black bears in and around Durango, CO. Duties included capture (cage trap), chemical immobilization and handling of bears. Project planning, logistical support, organization and maintenance of field equipment, drug storage and security, sample storage, programming of GPS collars, qualitative habitat categorization. Maintained accurate and detailed records of collected data in MS Access database. Trained and supervised interns and volunteers. Interacted with public and private entities as a state employee. Assisted PIs by objectively advising and planning to meet future project goals and needs.

Assisted in MSc. project investigating the urban ecology of black bears around the Roaring Fork Valley near Aspen, CO. Special emphasis on effect of anthropogenic food sources influencing behavior of collared bears in the study. Duties include tracking bears using downloaded GPS datapoints, VHF based radio telemetry (ground and aerial-fixed-wing), trapping and handling bears, accurately observing and recording resource selection data (including plant ID), managing databases, preparing maps using ArcGIS.Denwork: in a winter environment; locating den sites using collar data and telemetry, creating a travel plan, navigating to den using snowmachines, skis, or snowshoes, assessing safety of snow conditions and weather while navigating to den site, handling and processing bears at den, organizing equipment, recording, compilation and entry of data into computer database.
