During my summer internship at Bornhorst and Ward, I was given the opportunity to contribute to numerous large scale projects throughout Brisbane. The majority of my time was applied to the preliminary design of The Aviary, a proposed multi-story development in Toowong encompassing residential, retail and commercial spaces. Here I was responsible for the design of post-tension slabs including both flat plate and band beam systems. In addition to this I was given the opportunity to contribute to the development of Queens Wharf in the form of RC slab and staircase design.

During my experience at Farr Engineers I have been involved in the preliminary design stage of a variety of structural engineering projects. The tasks I have undertaken include but are not limited too; the development of roof framing/slab and footing plans, analysis of existing structures, portal frame design, residential housing design and assisting with onsite inspections.

Nanjing, Jiangsu

In November 2019 I was selected along with eleven other civil engineering students to partake in a study tour to Hohai University in Nanjing, China. The tour provided not only a rich cultural experience but the opportunity to discover a new perspective on civil engineering. The group observed the effects of rapid urbanisation in China and how the engineers of Hohai University were providing innovative solutions to constantly changing problems. My experience in China reinforced my understanding of the necessity to implement sustainable methods throughout civil engineering design in order to preserve and adapt to a dynamic environment.
