Die "Residenz" ist eine Spielstätte des Schauspiel Leipzig, die ausschließlich frei produzierten Projekten zur Verfügung steht. KünstlerInnen aus den Bereichen Performance, Tanz, Theater, bildender Kunst oder Musik können hier in mehrwöchigen Residenzen an ihren Produktionen arbeiten und sie zur Aufführung bringen.Mit der Residenz stellt das Schauspiel Leipzig einen Produktionsstandort für KünstlerInnen zur Verfügung, die unabhängig vom Repertoirebetrieb des Schauspielhauses andere Ästhetiken und Arbeitsweisen im Theater probieren. Es geht um kollektive Arbeitsprozesse, um Erzählungen abseits von literarischen Vorlagen und um Bühnensprachen, die untrennbar mit dem Akt der Aufführung verbunden sind. Die Residenz ist ein Labor für experimentelle Theaterformen, eine Produktionseinheit für offene Prozesse und ein Netzwerkknoten, der an internationale Koproduktionszusammenhänge anknüpft.

The curator programme of VabaLava is, for the second season, put together by the tandem of the international curator Thomas Frank and the Estonian curator Madli Pesti, who chose eight productions out of 35 projects that were submitted to the Estonian idea competition and ca 200 foreign applications for the 2016/2017 programme, uniting them under the title “IN I OUT”.The programme includes five productions by Estonians and three from abroad. The productions give intriguing answers to questions like: Where are the boundaries between equality and difference? How do we see the scales between a uniform identity and cultural and political versatility? How much do we accept differences into our familiar environment? How much are we willing to share? How constant is our cultural identity? What does integration actually mean?The selected productions include verbal and dance theatre, visual and technological theatre, poetry and music theatre, documentary and performance theatre, disco and boxing. The keywords are identity and technology, philosophy, ancient stories and oral heritage, fears, prejudices, combining and reconciling opposing values, identity crisis, digital culture, research on everyday life, masculine image, black humour.

brut is a Vienna based co-production institution focusing on experimental and innovative performing arts. Within its two venues brut is hosting and supporting local as well as international artists and companies elaborating new positions on theatre, contemporary dance and performance. Furthermore brut’s comprehensive program contains lectures, readings as well as parties and pop-concerts.The curatorial principles conain:- Enforced thematic and aesthetic combinations of activities of local and international artists- The creation of spaces for communication for national and international art productions.- The development and elaboration of dynamic production networks that react to the demands of the contemporary performing arts in a flexible way.- The development of international co-production models with consideration of both local demands of programming and financial conditions.- To connect the local Viennese arts scene in international contexts of production.
