Dr. Friedemann (born 1985 in Gotha) studied biology and biophysics at the Johan Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, the Fudan University in Shanghai and at the Shanghai Research Center of Acupuncture and Meridian. He worked intensively during his degree on the dynamics of mitochondrial membrane potential and mass during the cell cycle as well as on the regulation of the cardiovascular system through Traditional Chinese Medicine. His first publications on the topic appeared during a two-year research period at the Shanghai Research Center of TCM. On completion of his degree he joined the HanseMerkur Center for TCM at the UKE, where he focused his research on neuroprotective and neuroregenerative effects of Chinese medicinal herbs for his PhD. Out of this research several publication emerged in international journals. In 2015 he received his doctorate at the Hamburg University and became laboratory head at the HanseMerkur Center for TCM at the UKE. In 2016 his research work was honored with the Sebastian-Kneipp Award.In 2017, Dr. Friedemann was elected as a German delegate of the DIN for the ISO-TC-249 committee.Since 2017 he is Executive Council Member of the 1st Board of Specialty Committee of Evaluation and Promotion of Chinese Medicine Appropriate Technology of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS).As CEO of ConPhyMed (January 2017 - April 2018), he was responsible for Scientific and Regulatory Affairs. In May 2018, Dr. Friedemann took over the management of ConPhyMed Pharmaceutical GmbH, but continues to be available to the clients of ConPhyMed GmbH as a consultant.The International Education College of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine appointed Dr. Friedemann as a professor in March 2018. In June 2018 he was furthermore appointed as visiting professor at the Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nanchang (China).
