The subject of this collaboration was to use artificial intelligence techniques to predict the appearance of pathology in plausible future low-field systems and evaluate if the images from these systems would be suitable for instigating follow up scanning on a conventional, high field clinical MRI system. A major part of this topic centered on the use of CT images of tumors to train a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to predict a representative mapping from high-fieldto low-field images and finally translate real clinical high-field images to low-field.As a Research Developer, I have worked in collaboration with several teams of researchers from: * The Institute of Cancer Research of United Kingdom * The National Physical Laboratory of United Kindgom * University College of London (#10 QS rank 2020) * Leeds University (#93 QS rank 2020) * Aberdeen University (#194 QS rank 2020) * Heriot-Watt University (#301 QS rank 2020)My contribution to this project was the "Uncertainty Estimation and Leveraging" part, how to model the uncertainty of the learnt Deep Learning models with Bayesian approaches, obtain uncertainty information and explore the potential of further performance improvement: * Implementation of the Monte Carlo Dropout Uncertainty Estimation method for GAN models. * Implementation of Uncertainty Visualization methods and tools. * Prototyping of a predicting system based on CT images, image segmentation and uncertainty estimation to demonstrate how uncertainty estimation can improve predictors.
