Investigating density 'staircases', observed in the oceans, and predicted to exist in stars and planetary interiors. Using low-order models to investigate the stability, growth and nonlinear interactions of important modes.MSc Group Project: Developed a demonstrative wave tank to model coastal processes. Exhibits overtopping on typical coastal structures. Supported by mathematical models using smoothed particle hydrodynamics, finite element methods and neural networks. Performed an aerodynamic study of a novel vertical-axis wind turbine. Developed a strategy for modelling transient flow around a moving turbine with multiple degrees of freedom using an unstructured sliding mesh using Ansys FLUENT software. The research suggested a number of improvements could be made to the turbine.
