The title of my PhD project is 'Metagenomic analysis of rumen microbial communities'. This has involved both using currently available programs as well as designing some of my own to assembly and then analyse metagenomic and metatranscriptomic datasets.This project has two main sections, firstly studying the microbial community of the rumen to identify species, genes and SNPs associated with methane emissions. Secondly my project has involved significant work on the viral component of the rumen microbiome (virome). Side projects during my PhD have included;- Assembly and analysis of lung metagenomic data-Assembly and analysis of chicken cecum metagenomic data-Wet lab experience to obtain metatranscriptomic data
