Worked on a team that created the world’s first credit/debit based Automatic Fare Collection System for bus transit system in Holland. Involved in all aspects of the product, but specifically responsible for a component called the Central Processing System (CPS). The CPS was a Windows NT service written in C++ that used DCOM and MS-SQL to calculate bus fares based on a bus patron’s GPS coordinates mapped to bus stops and applying to complex business rules.

Senior Architect for Motorola’s CDMA-based Short Message Service Center (SMSC) which was used at major telecom carriers in North America and around the world. Lead the evolution of the SMSC from a low-performing PC-based Linux platform to a higher-performing, fault tolerant Tandem platform. Designed and developed the most complex part of the application that was responsible for the delivery of the first CDMA SMS message in North America.

Progressed from entry level engineer in a group of ~150 engineers that developed a Console Dispatch communication system. The product was embedded software running on Motorola 68K processors using an in-house developed OS, and the C and Pascal programming languages. Perhaps one of my biggest achievements was the creation of a Pascal to C converter, which was implemented using using C, KSH, and Flex. This enabled the department to convert all of their Pascal modules, that were created over 20+ years into the C language. This was very significant because it enabled the organization to upgrade to the latest emulators and development tools that no longer supported Pascal.
