Directed IP asset marketing and licensing efforts across all technical areas for the Office of Technology Commercialization.Key accomplishments include leading the PRF licensing team to a >25% increase in negotiated deals vs. prior year, developing new licensing contracts to simplify and streamline licensing activities and leading successful negotiations with entities ranging from new startups to major multinational corporations.

Led intellectual property strategy, protection & licensing for the Office of Technology Commercialization in all life sciences technology disciplines.Key accomplishments include initiating and leading strategic review of Office functions leading to development and implementation of structural transition to separate IP protection & licensing functions, oversight of portfolio of over 1200 active patent prosecution cases, including ~250 personal cases, and negotiation of contracts generating greater than $1m in up-front revenue.

Responsible for management of a portfolio of life science technologies, from initial disclosure through IP strategy & protection to final negotiated license.

Leader of Tate & Lyle's global research program in the areas of functional food starches and particle engineering. Broad responsibility for product & process technology, product commercialization, IP protection & manufacturing process support.Key accomplishments include identification of texturants strategy based technology & patent landscape mapping, as well as customer, market & scientific trend identification & tracking, and development and launch of 5 novel starch products.

Led a group of scientists towards goals in process optimization & cost reduction, primarily in the sweetener & starch product areas.Key accomplishments include realizing annual plant cost savings of ~$5M via implementation of lab-developed technologies, and acting as key internal technical expert for patent litigation.

Responsible for process chemistry research and optimization of a key sweetener manufacturing process.Key accomplishments include recruiting & leading a team of four scientists and implementing process optimizations worth ~$2M in annual cost savings.

Postdoctoral research with Prof. D. Crich – Novel organic chemistry research in the areas of carbohydrates, free radicals & biochemical ligation.Key accomplishments include development of a novel chemical processes, forming the basis for many further research projects, directing undergraduate & graduate student research programs, and managing a multi-million-dollar departmental NMR facility.
